Food 4 the Soul: Elijah's Escape

Today's post is inspired by a quick weekday meal consisting of cubed steaks in light gravy with rice and green pea mix; along with steamed carrots and celery. After I finished preparing this meal, I thought about how though its components were simple, it satisfied the requirements for the meal of the evening. I, then, recalled how when the angel prepared food for Elijah when he ran from Jezebel, that the description of the food prepared wasn't fanciful, but it sustained and blessed Elijah.

And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God. (I Kings 19:6,8)

What does this have to do with anything? Many times in our life of faith, we look for extraordinary things to occur as a sign of God's blessing and provision. The simple meal I prepared and Elijah's baked good and water were simple solutions to a need. The point is: don't overlook the simple and minor blessings that God brings into your life and discount them or the One who provided for you. He knows how to bless us and when to bless us.
