But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:3)
Individuals in Paul's day were perverting and complicating the message of Christ to make others submit to them and their supposed authority. Paul reminded them of how Eve was beguiled and that if one complicates the message of Christ, it is a form of deception. We find that many false teachers and apostles are present in today's churches looking for personal disciples. Yet, we must expose and them for who they are, just as the Ephesian church did as commended by Christ in John's Revelation. In addition, we must continue to hold to the simplicity of Christ; that is, we receive Him and enter into eternal life.
Our hope is assured and our salvation is secure because of Christ's work alone. Though He gives us ministries and leaders for our encouragement and edification, they are not to become substitutes for a personal relationship with Christ. On today, remember the power of the gospel of God revealed in Christ.
